GTUC HOLDS 12TH PRESTIGIOUS LECTURE

The Graduate School has held its 12th Prestigious Lecture and the theme Leadership.

The lecture was delivered by the Founder and Executive Director, Salt and Light Ministry, Rev. Dr. Joyce Aryee who charged students to pursue quality leadership.

She stated that, the development of the nation mainly depends on the youth of the country and therefore stressed on the need for the youth to take their studies serious to be able to face the challenges life presents.

She also emphasized the need to make judicious use of time as students. Time wasted cannot be regained, she added.

Dr. Joyce Aryee advised students to have a global perspective of any idea if they want to grow to become responsible and successful leaders in the Ghanaian society.

She added that being in frontline party politics alone does not make one a leader, adding that a leader must become a role model with something spectacular people could learn from.
The nation must nurture ethical leaders who must work to become increasingly and interpersonally competently continuing that, in that leadership responsibility must be taken seriously with a high sense of accountability if we want to grow as a nation, she remarked.

“Self-development and the general development of others must not be in conflict” Dr. Aryee advised. Leadership requires vision and that Ghana must have a vision and focus if it wants to grow as a nation.

Highlighting on the African continent, Dr. Aryee sadly stated that Africa is the richest in terms of natural resources, “yet our people wallow in extreme poverty and hopelessness”.

She however advised that the continent must nurture leaders locally for the global market if it wants to grow to become independent, adding that the only challenge Africa has as a continent is its leaders.

The Dean of the Graduate School, GTUC, Dr. Francis Agyenim Boateng who chaired the function thanked Rev. Dr. Joyce Aryee for honouring the School's invitation and also assured students of the University's commitment to the delivery of quality practical education for all. He added that, students should take advantage of the Prestigious Lectures to make education at GTUC worthwhile.

The next speaker expected on the platform is Dr. Paa Kwasi Nduom, a renowned economist and politician which comes off on Friday, May 22, 2015.
